| Gathering Of The Classics. Edenvale Classic Air/Auto Show |
Blue skies, light breezes and some fluffy clouds greeted the hundreds of visiting pilots and drivers who attended The Gathering Of The Classics Air/Auto Show held at the Edenvale Aerodrome on Saturday August 7th, 2010.
Caledon Cruiser attendees included John Traynor, John Gilroy, Bruce Chevalier, Romas & Gwen Krilavicius, Rick & Jean Hayward, and Ross & Joan Wilson. We all spent a very enjoyable and relaxing afternoon admiring the 230 vintage aircraft and chatting with the owner/pilots and the 170 vintage vehicles with their owners. Among the vehicles were 40 Vehicles from the Georgian Bay British Car Club, one of which was a ’53 MGTC that spend its early racing years on site when there was a racetrack at Edenvale. The Best of Show winning vehicle was a 66 Chevelle belonging to Dave West. Several former Caledon residents, Howie Phelan (Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation) and Tina & Paul Shaw (GBBCC) were among the organizers of the event. Jack Smith and John Hathadt, also Caledon residents, are the owners and restorers of a beautiful 1946 Ercoupe, which won the “BEST NOSEWHEEL TROPHY”. They were kind enough to invite me to have some seat time (note the car-guy elbow out the window).
A quote from one of the organizers….”From the numbers we have so far, this past weekends Gathering of the Classics was the largest Fly-In within Canada….no museum behind us or paid staff, or financial backers, just a group of volunteers who are obviously masochistic and love to do this every year”
Mark this event on your 2011 calendar.

| Darren Moffatt Award |
|
Late last year at a Caledon Cruiser Car Club meeting, a discussion arose regarding the start of the club’s third decade. It became apparent that there were many people, past and present, who have contributed in a major way to the founding and success of the Club. In January of this year, the notion of an award of recognition was discussed. In February, the club decided that the award would be in memory of Darren Moffatt, a true old car, or really old truck KID who loved and pursued the hobby. I’m sure each of us remembers being a kid and just loving the ‘fixing up’ of our first old junker and how our dreams were fulfilled.
And you can look and see how Darren’s Dream has lived on and will continue through these awards.
You all know the expression “The Older I Get, The Faster I WAS. Well, our memories of days gone bye are usually specific to what we most enjoyed at that moment, and HISTORIANS usually have to interview many people to have a complete picture of what happened or really, what evolved. It is fairly clear that there were six major players in the story of how The Caledon Cruisers Car Club came into being:
Satch Beraldo
Steve Brown
Rick Hayward
Fred Jones
John Mcguire
Tom Pickett
In Mid July, their memories of those early days will be seen on our website
In future years it is our hope this club will continue to recognize others in our club and in our community for their contributions and support to the well being of The Caledon Cruiser Car Club and our hobby.
